Hollywood stars seek attention, validation
The Robert F Kennedy Jr Justification for Fame organization (officially known as the Waterkeeper Alliance) has arrived in Banff for their annual ski spree / photo op and something to do with how Southern Alberta's pristine, glacier-fed Bow River is one of North America's 10 most polluted waterways. This is the weekend where Calgarians get to listen to such notable ecological researchers as actor Alec Baldwin and, um, socialite Marla Maples tell us how our river is dying and that our lifestyle is killing it. This, apparently, is a good thing because residents living in the Bow valley are complete idiots and wouldn't know how to properly maintain our environmental standards unless Hollywood (and Martha's Vineyard) educates us on our behalf.
Thankfully, fawning "journalists" were on the scene to witness the Waterkeepers' arrival at Calgary International Airport and report back to us on the harrowing adventure these intrepid ecological warriors have taken to show us the error of our ways:
Yes, our courageous celebrities polluted the air above our fair city for an hour so that they could have a solid couple of days skiing at Banff and then tell us how we're destroying our environment.
Is the Waterkeeper message of conservation getting out to the local populace? I would have to say, Yes:
I'll be sure to keep you all up to date on the progress these wonderful philathropists will have accomplished this weekend, from the all-important snowshoe races to the Kenny Loggins concert.
On behalf of all of us living the Bow valley, let me say to Kennedy and the rest of our wonderful Hollywood actors, Way to go, F.A.G.

Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River) had lots of time to chat while waiting for her husband to arrive on another flight.
The actress, carrying her own luggage and topped off with a stylish tartan cap, said many flights were delayed due to the poor weather and her trip to Calgary was no different.
"We spent one hour on the tarmac in California and then circling around here for an hour waiting to land," she said. "But we all knew half the people on the plane so it’s not like it was a hard tour of duty."

Joe Ripley from Lethbridge was at the airport picking up his mother-in-law when he inadvertently got to catch a bit of the action.
"I recognized Alan Thicke," he said.
"And that guy from (L.A. Law) that George talked to on Seinfeld."
